I split my time between coastal SC and the mountains of NC. I can’t escape it! Sleep is getting harder and harder. Trying to decide where I could go “if.”
What amazes me is that more businesses aren’t fleeing the Misogynist states. When are we going to see woman-friendly companies refusing to host events on the dangerous side of the new Mason-Dixon Line? Is it ok to require employees to travel to states where they will be legally inferior and subject to state mandated medical malpractice?
Or should we just leave all of the business down there
to the men? I’m pretty sure that’s the misogynists’ dream …….
Minnesotan checking in! Curious about where she lived, since the state has plenty of red parts and you can keep chickens in Minneapolis (hens only) and most of the suburbs. Maybe under a HOA? Because those suck regardless of political persuasion, IMO.
We live in a red part and met a couple - wife and wife, one trans - leaving Florida because they literally couldn't live there anymore. It was in February of 2023 in one of the worst winters ever, and they stayed. But not being able to live in a place because the laws erase you seems more serious than masks, abortion, or transgender people existing. Florida's loss, our gain.
Livermore, ironically, is a very wealthy area and was pretty moderate when I went there for my honeymoon 15 years ago. Stayed with a friend's parents in their million dollar mansion, walked along Tesla road and hit up a bunch of wineries, went to the National Ignition Facility and got a tour of SCIENCE. Excellent honeymooning. Greenville is..... well, it's becoming wealthier too, and has a much improved downtown park area, and I love the Swamp Rabbit. (I'm not sure how conservative it's going to stay at the rate it's growing.)
Conservative Californians and Minnesotans are also going to learn that upstate South Carolina conservatives are a whole different species. I don't think they'd even be able to understand my father in law when he speaks - fast, loud, angry.
Put on a Clemson shirt and they'll be fine for the short term, but like the Florida emigrees, a lot of them may end up moving back home after a few years in SC.
