Why this opposition to vaccines and support for this?
As I keep ranting *because the facts and records support it* the Republican Party is pro-death and they’re insane (actually likely not all but too few who aren’t to matter).
As for the voters it’s because they’re sense of freedom, which vaccines restrict, includes the freedom to spread a global pandemic virus, the freedom to let the world go to shit, the freedom to be insane haters, and the freedom to be ripped off by employers.
Yeah, sure, insane applications of freedom there but what did I just say?
Not dissimilar to "it's a death cult," which rings true. Also--and this may be interesting--authoritarians want to worship and obey authorities, but not experts or nanny-state scolds who demand that you think of other people. They want to obey Daddy, and get Daddy's approval. Daddy's approval means that you're special, and therefore don't have to--and shouldn't--think of other people.
I like "cult" for MAGA, because it's irrational, it ascribes magical powers to Trump, it believes things that are not true and doesn't believe things that are true. I was saying in 2016 the MAGA was not a political movement, but a religious one. In that sense, of course, Christianity (and Catholicism) is a cult. As for clinically insane: I'll buy it.
My filter is one’s aligned so to speak with tikkun olam or, hmmm…, let’s say I find beliefs lacking. Like, reconciling religious claims with having no issue with the shittiness of the world doesn’t work for me. It’s wrong however it’s rationalized.
Well, that was alarming, bless Krugman's heart, but it seems likely most pediatricians will still follow their old state guidelines. Here in Illinois, Pritzker announced we'll be following the recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics, and It looks like 26 states and D.C. will not be following this CDC's new schedule either. Remarkably, Kentucky, West Virginia, and North Carolina are in this group. My kids and granddaughters live in Missouri, but they're in the 'burbs outside K.C., which is both blue and fairly educated (and offers excellent barbeque!). In any event, my son and daughter are (of course) very intelligent people AND Democrats, so no worries there. But my heart breaks for the children of those gullible MAGA parents, and the grandparents who will have to watch their grandbabies start their childhood at risk of illness and death. Thanks for the piece, guys. This is a subject close to my heart -- my Mother's twin died of measles in 1942. She was three years old.
"universally hailed as profoundly true." You guys are good ! I've gotten acclaim, but then again who hasn't? I got accolades once or maybe twice depending on how you look it. I've never been universally hailed.
You guys are badass!
If they had just had an oral vaccine for COVID it would be a different world. Maga big boys don't like ouchies and no way they admit to being too pussy to take a shot, so here we are!

Never quite liked the term death cult. I dunno, maybe because it’s much, much larger than cult-size.
The GOP promotes literally deadly policies. So calling a national party a cult, I dunno, just too inaccurate for me.
As for that daddy crap: I keep saying they’re clinically insane. The details of how exact varies among a few types, as it were, but not many.
But you already know how highly I think of those people.

Don’t get me started on the goys.

Not only "who will the blame", but they will also demand that _someone_ (not them) pick up the bill for care, rehab, etc.

FFS, WM, you’re being too kind.
"MAGA big boys don't like ouchies" would be a great opening line of a song.
MAGA big boys don't like ouchies -
It's just how they was raised,
Their Mama's wiped their dirty butts
And gave them endless praise -
My dudes! Thanks for the "Little Johnny" punchline!
"Rectum? Nearly killed him!"
