The Mrs and I went down to the Hudson River somewhere up from Sing Sing Friday evening (I suppose even as our beloved POTUS was getting ready for the WHCA disgrace by snorting Adderall?) where I met a red diaper baby! (I suppose nearly everyone will have to google that.) He told me that both parents fought in the Spanish Civil War. He was also grumpy what with the state the nation.

Speaking of actual commies.

Meanwhile, one of the things I marvel at is how Trump and his legions of toadies have been recycling the insanity of the early years of RWNJ media, cranking it up to 19, and implementing policies based on the resulting insanity. The primo example at the moment, of course, is Donny’s lucrative warring against Iran.

I know: If I was correct there, Big Media reporting would reflect that. Since they’re not and never will no matter what, I must be wrong, right?

As for the accusations of communists amok and all that, it would help if more than a few voters remembered the ancient times and would bite at the accusations.

But firstly, I think that cohort is too small to matter.

Secondly, the voters still seem about at repelled by the GOP as they were in last November’s elections. Obviously, time will tell.

I can't read the name " Hasan" without hearing "Hasan CHOP !" in my head.

Cormac MacCarthy wrote the perfect description of a Maga rally

"A legion of horribles , hundreds in number, half naked or clad in costumes attic or biblical or wardrobed out of a fevered dream with the skins of animals and silk finery and pieces of uniform still tracked with the blood of prior owners, coats of slain dragoons, frogged and braided cavalry jackets, one in a stovepipe hat and one with an umbrella and one in white stockings and a bloodstained wedding veil and some in headgear or cranefeathers or rawhide helmets that bore the horns of bull or buffalo and one in a pigeontailed coat worn backwards and otherwise naked and one in the armor of a Spanish conquistador, the breastplate and pauldrons deeply dented with old blows of mace or sabre done in another country by men whose very bones were dust and many with their braids spliced up with the hair of other beasts until they trailed upon the ground and their horses' ears and tails worked with bits of brightly colored cloth and one whose horse's whole head was painted crimson red and all the horsemen's faces gaudy and grotesque with daubings like a company of mounted clowns, death hilarious, all howling in a barbarous tongue and riding down upon them like a horde from a hell more horrible yet than the brimstone land of Christian reckoning, screeching and yammering and clothed in smoke like those vaporous beings in regions beyond right knowing where the eye wanders and the lip jerks and drools"

Cormac got around ! His given name was Charles, He didn't want to be confused with a ventriloquist dummy and changed his name. That's understandable. That he chose the name of a Robert E Howard swords and saucery character less so.

He could have been Kull or Conan McCarthy I guess.

Robert E Howard of all people — an incel pulp writer from Texas — has my go to line re the mass of humanity: The natural state of man is barbarism. (EW, as a professional enabler of Conan in a manner may (or may not) elaborate.

Aligning with that, and it should be no surprise, I doped out the answer to the great question: Is Man good?

From the bias of living in these here exceptional United States, it seems obvious to me — and on brand — that answer is: If he chooses to be good, but not by nature.

As our scumbag leaders in both the public and private sectors prove 24/7.

I'm a Robert Howard fan! I read Pigeons from Hell in like , the sixth grade and didn't sleep right until I was a sophomore.

Sure, I knew a few commies back in the last gasps of the hippie days. Communal living! Food co-ops! The Soviet bookstore!! Saying "Didja hear that, walls?" whenever someone said something slightly catty at the peace center meetings...

I think the long, aggressive confrontation with the pushy recruiter for Sendero Luminoso might not strictly speaking qualify, tho he was SOUTH American if that helps. He only promised small arms training, which was fair, as my arms ARE pretty small...

They're small, but wiry.
